Canada-based e-reader maker Kobo today entered the domestic market with the launch of four devices in the range of Rs 7,999 to 13,999.
The company is aiming to sell two lakh of these electronic book reading devices in 12 to 18 months.
“We intend to sell two lakh units in 12-18 months across the portfolio,” Kobo Executive Vice-President and General Manager Wayne White told PTI.
The company, which launched three e-readers and one tablet PC, will also be working on a device that comes with a SIM card slot for mobile connectivity.
“In order to be successful in India, we will have to customize a device for the market here, which is likely to come next year,” White said.
Kobo has tied up with booksellers Crossword, WHSmith and electronics retailer Croma to sell its devices, which will be available in the market starting today.
The company said readers will also have access to Kobo’s eBookstore featuring nearly 4-million titles across 68 languages including of Indian authors such as Jhumpa Lahiri, Ramachandra Guha and Sachin Garg.
“As e-commerce continues to expand and the demand for digital content grows, we are thrilled to be launching in India and look forward to introducing passionate readers to our digital reading platform,” White added.
